Chapter 15

Sin stood in front of the security building and watched the drama unfolding before him. He didn’t know exactly what the hell it all entailed, but he knew something wasn’t right. The woman with Steel could be Celia’s sister. In fact, for a split second he’d believed he had to kill Steel. Then he’d realized that the woman with Steel wasn’t Celia.

“What are you nosing into now?” Brutal asked.

“Who is that?” Sin asked, lifting his chin toward the benches near the duck pond.

“That’s Steel’s wife.”

“Steel’s wife?!” Sin exclaimed.

“Yep.”

“She looks like my Celia!”

“She does. It’s spooky as fuck. Wait until you see her up close.”

Sin watched her for a few moments longer until Josie arrived. “You sure she’s Steel’s wife?”

“That’s what the word is. I don’t think he’s happy about it, but she’s here and she’s been collecting widow’s benefits.”

“I don’t think that’s it,” Sin said, canting his head slightly.

“What do you mean?”

“Something else going on here. Steel wouldn’t turn his back on his mate for a wife he didn’t know. And the wife… she doesn’t seem sincere. Can’t pick up a damn thing from her. She’s too aware of everything else and not Steel.”

“What do you mean?” Brutal asked, coming to stand beside him and look out toward the duck pond. “Look at her. Steel’s mate just arrived. They’re arguing and yelling, and Steel’s wife is busy looking around herself instead. She’s not focused on her main adversary, she’s not focused on the ally at her side, she’s taking in surroundings and everything else within eyesight and earshot. Only when someone yells at her directly does she react emotionally.”

“I see what you mean,” Brutal said.

“She’s making an effort to look the outraged wife, but she’s really not,” Sin said.

They watched as Josie and Athena stormed off in one direction, and Carmella went in the other. They watched as Feral spoke to Steel. Then Sin stepped off the small stairs in front of the security building.

“Where you going?” Brutal asked.

“Don’t trust that woman. She looks far too much like my female.”

“So you’re going to ask her why she looks like Celia?”

“No. But I’m going to see what I can find out about her. I don’t like this shit. It’s got my senses in an uproar. Something ain’t right, and I’ll kill a bitch before I let her upset my Celia.”

“Sin, no one has said a single word about your Celia. Carmella included.”

“Ehhh,” Sin grumbled, waving Brutal off. “I got a feeling here, Brutal. Something is not right here, and I’m going to find out what it is.”

“Talk to Lethal before you go messing around in shit you don’t belong in,” Brutal said.

“If it involves my Celia, I belong in it.”

“Nobody said a word about Celia!”

“Can’t be an accident she looks so much like my female,” Sin said, walking away with Lethal’s place in mind.
